The European Day of Languages (EDL) is celebrated on 26 September every year. Here in the Centre for European Schooling we have students who speak different mother tongues, so European Day of Languages is the perfect day to help them celebrate their linguistic heritage and to remind them of how beautiful and lucky we are to go to school in a multilingual environment.
On 26 September, all over Europe we celebrate the diversity of languages across Europe. And today, in the Centre for European Schooling we want to show everyone the importance of language learning. We want to show our appreciation and increase other pupils' appreciation of all the languages spoken in Europe and at the same time we hope to instill a lifelong language learning.
EDL is an initiative of the Council of Europe and began in 2001.
Language learning brings benefits to young and old: you are never too old to learn a language and to enjoy the opportunities it opens up! Knowing even a few words of another language can help us to understand and appreciate other cultures and their differences.
