Non-denominational ethics

The Non-denominational Ethics syllabus of the Centre for European Schooling (CES) has evolved since 2003 when the Moral Education / Ethics programme was first introduced in the Centre. The Moral Education programme was introduced to cater for pupils who had enrolled at the CES and whose parents expressed a desire that they be withdrawn from St. Seachnall’s mainstream Religious Education programme. Over the course of the programme, pupils are facilitated in exploring the different values and traditions of the world in which they live.

General aims of the Non-Denominational Curriculum

• prepare pupils to become caring members of a multicultural society with the necessary intercultural skills to enrich such a society.
• facilitate pupils to make reasoned and informed moral judgements
• raise awareness in pupils of issues of human rights, justice and equality in society.
• develop in pupils an ethical and reasoned approach to caring for the environment.
• encourage considered expression of one’s own opinions and attentive and respectful listening to the opinions of others
• facilitate in pupils the ability to make reasoned and informed moral judgements
• address issues of respect for the right of every living being.
